Moving From Goldman Sachs To Startups and Venture Capital
Myriam Baissa - previously Associate at Goldman Sachs before becoming Founder of Akhal Beauty. When she took time off to travel during her investment banking days, Myriam saw an opportunity to disrupt the supply chain of a high-demand beauty product - argan oil. Akhal Beauty is the first platform to empower working women in the villages of Morocco.
Lucinda Hankin - during her time as an M&A analyst at Goldman Sachs, Lucinda decided that her passion lay in technology and working with founders. She moved to London, where she worked with early stage start-ups and later staged digitally focussed retail brands as a consultant / contractor. In 2017, Lucinda found a VC role back in Sydney at NAB Ventures, but recently moved to Grok Ventures, where she’s more focused on investing to create impact.
Myriam and Lucy will talk about how they made the leap from investment banking to startups, their pitfalls and advice for those thinking of starting something of their own, and Myriam’s whirlwind experience talking to investors in San Francisco and New York last month - “I thought investment banking was hard, this was a whole other level” - Myriam.
